I don't object to the concept of emphasis in text. Exclamation marks and other punctuation has been used and become acceptable through common usage
Unfortunately since the beginning of the internet it has become accepted in 'chat' that using capitals is shouting. I don't mind you “”emphasising”” words but I do mind being ((shouted )) at. *Capitals* have become shouting through common usage and you can't just use them now for mere emphasis, as you would an underline or italics, etc. The same as if your exclamation mark key stopped working, you can't just use a ^question mark^ instead. So when I read your posts you're not ...emphasising... you are shouting.
I don't mind #sarcasm#, your ~overuse~ of emphasis, or even most, so called, \\offensive// comments on the hole, but I ¬hate¬ shouting.
But as I said in my first post, perhaps its just me.
I've tried some methods on the way to emphasise words, I hope one works for you. I don't know what they will look like when posted to the site because I don't know if all characters are supported until I post. If they do work I particularly like *this* because it does emphasise the word, and has slight irony of producing bold text in some word processes.
An alternative is to not emphasise at all. Controversial I know, but others seem to manage.
Do you find it difficult to understand other posts if people don't shout certain words at you?
The over use of emphasis in any text looses its emphasis and makes it harder to understand, not easier. If you do still feel the need to shout, please only shout when appropriate.
