Just to be controversial on the subject, there was a report on Senna's death that noted that he had to some degree contributed to it himself.

The argument is that there was a known depression in the track at the point where the accident started.

Senna and other drivers used the depression to help pull them into the corner, just as we karters do the same thing in our lesser way.

However, the change in tyres would have lowered his ground clearance, with the result that his floortray bottomed out, lifting his wheels clear of the ground.

This has relevance now because we saw several cars experience the same thing in Brazil when their floortrays aquaplaned on water, so that the tyres lost any grip even when they weren't actually aquaplaning at that moment.

Senna is regarded as sufficiently expert a driver that he 'should have known' this would happen and have avoided that dip until his tyres had expanded enough to clear the ground effect.

So he was partly to blame.

On the other hand, as we saw in Brazil, changes have been made that make surviving worse situations possible.
