Davy, you can always have a bonfire.

There are no laws which forbid bonfires. The occasional bonfire or barbecue should not cause a major problem and a complete ban would be unreasonable.

If a neighbour is causing a nuisance by burning rubbish, the law is on your side. Under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, a statutory nuisance includes "smoke, fumes or gases emitted from the premises so as to be prejudicial to health or a nuisance".

To be seen as a nuisance, a bonfire would have to affect your well being, comfort or the enjoyment of your property.

The clean air act of 1956 and I think, 1993, limit the emissions from chimneys and furnaces.

I think if you have a smokelees stove then you can burn your wood.

This link will let you find your area and its restrictions.
