You are absolutely right about the fundamental problem....people. You may also be right that any efforts of ours will not have any effect on the future. However, I have one thing that makes me NOT able to follow your advice about 'enjoying the ride'....its called conscience. Its what us athiests have when we 'got no religion'. I would like to be able to look my kids in the eye in 20 years (if I make it that long!), when they are facing a future affected by rising sea levels, disappearing species; and say "at least I tried...a bit".

Its my way of being selfish!
