That doesn't get us anywhere. We are (I hope) all agreed that going too fast for the circumstances needs to be addressed. Unfortunately fixed speed limits DON'T address it except in a small number of cases.

I have personally witnessed 25+ accidents. Of those I would say 3 or 4 were caused by EXCESS SPEED - 7.5-10% and higher than DFT figures. However, in NOT ONE was anyone speeding (exceeding the posted limit). Which is why focussing on enforcing fixed speed limits is right on the margins of road safety - not at the heart of it.

Your previous posting is typical of those that think the vast majority of accidents are caused my nutters travelling at ludicrous speeds. The stats clearly show that isn't the case - it's mostly average men and women making a wide range of mistakes which ALL need to be addressed.

Like I say if you and itpro spent even 50% of your time on Safety issues other than speed, I'd actually think you were really interested in road safety. But itpro states openly that he leaves the other 85-95% of deaths/injuries to others. Indeed itpro's view of the effect of speed has been shown to be grossly inflated over the years, but it makes no difference to his stance.

A case of don't confuse me with the facts, don't you think?
