That is EXACTLY the lack of joined up thinking that the fixation with speed produces.

You have a (VERY) serious road safety issue, in which speed is NOT the issue so do you
1) Have a road safety education programme for the kids (or their parents, some of whom are highly irresponsible)
2) Have a pedestrian crossing
3) A lollipop lady? (sorry person)
4) Ban parking

of course not! - we'll have a solution that is IRRELEVANT to the particular problem we have had.

It drives me mad.

But regarding speed humps. Ł175000 of taxpayers money was spent on pinch points in our village. Now we have loads of parked cars - so the pinch points mostly have no effect- it's the parked cars which slow people down (but do obsure pedestrians).
Except at both ends of the village.

In one case cars continue at undiminished speed on the WRONG side of the road, at the other they crash into opposing traffic (regularly) because the pinch point is on a blind bend.

We'd ha' loved speed humps....
