I don't think this is so bad. The current points system is still going to be used to decide ties and so it makes no difference to the majority of drivers who don't stand a chance of winning. For the 2 or 3 drivers who will battle for the championship it puts the premium on winning which is as it should be.

This system would have given Ayrton Senna a lot more titles and properly reflect is utter domination of F1 between 1988 and 1993.
