Just my few pennyworth......
Those that were killed and their families did nothing wrong..... Football fans should never go to watch a football match and not come home....... which also happened at Heisel....... on that occasion due to violence on the terraces (remarkably never seems to be remembered here in the same way).
The police did not go to work that day either thinking...."I know, let's make some really bad decisions and kill a load of fans including kids..."
The cover up by the police since to try and support their position that fans were arriving late, some without tickets trying to push their way into the ground, putting those in charge of crowd control in the position to have to make a decision.... which ultimately proved to be wrong and cost people their lives...... is what has caused this to go on and on and on.
If the police had simply stated their position, and the Officer in charge on the day simply held his hands up and said...."Look, it was nearing kick off time, fans were arriving later than we had anticipated and massing around the gates, some were climbing over the gates (as seen on the video footage), and I was concerned about crushing outside. I made a decision based on what I thought was the right thing to do..... and in hindsight it proved to be a decision which I will have to live with for the rest of my life. I didn't go into work that day to make bad decisions....I made what I thought was the right decision and it proved to be wrong, for which I cannot apologise enough......."
That would have been the end of it 25+ years ago. That did not happen, and the attempts to justify a bad decision by making more bad decisions in attempting to cover up ANY culpability is why it has taken 27 years to get this point.
