Ok let's just clam down and assess this,

1) there shouldn't be any over reactions, I've recovered hundreds of cars all over the uk using tractors and double or single waved flags...is 99.9% of cases there isn't an issue, in all those incidents I have only ever had 1 driver end up coming off at the same corner and nearly hitting me, that was in very different circumstances in the dry. He got 6 points on his racing licence for endangering people....however as I said it was in the dry in a car that doesn't need to go fast to have downforce....f1 cars in the wet are a completely different beast

2) there were double waved flags before the incident, lights on his desh and warnings from the team over the radio....there were 20 other cars out there that managed to get through the corner, jules didn't. Either way the marshals and circuit crew did the correct thing. Double waved yellows mean slow down and be prepared to stop, clearly jules didn't slow down enough, however again it's not as simple as that, if he has hit a river and aquaplaned off then it's not something you can react to quickly and easily...put yourself in his helmet with the rain, spray etc.....the lad had a lot to think about in a split second

3) I HATE modern circuit design, unfortunatly this is the effect of smaller gravel traps and longer Tarmac runoffs...cars can't slow down enough before getting to the barrier!

Overall is anyone to blame? Personally I would like to see drivers respecting the meaning of yellow flags, not just in f1 but in ALL motorsport, people will cry unfair if an incident affects there race more than others, however this incident shows that it's not just your finishing position in a race that is effected but also the your life and lives of people around you...after all yellow flags are a safety thing!

I also hope circuit design is looked at and gravel traps are reinstated or some way of slowing down cars that are out of control.

Thirdly after a couple of close shaves myself I've said for years the circuit tractors need skirts....however that doesn't answer all the questions, it's still going to be a hell of an impact with a sudden stop

Overall it shouldn't be a blame game, someone is in hospital and others have had a close shave, it should a learning process to improve things for the future, but in a rational and reasonable way
