Least we not forget the incredible unreliability of the 1970's F1 cars. They were only designed to go fantastically fast for 90 minutes. Most teams of that era 'nursed' the end and did not race to the flag. Im sure it made Ronnie's ego feel better demonstrating he 'could' race to the flag, whether he could of not made no difference if Mario was in cruise mode.
