Sky had Formula 1 about 10 years ago and, along with all other digital TV at the time, the venture failed as viewers were not prepared to pay.
To me, they are trying too hard. F1 isn't football but they do need "experts" where necessary and a good anchorman. Damon will relax into his role as DC did a few years back but it was interesting that Crofty took the lead commentary role and in FP 1&2 Brundle was marginalised in the pit lane.
Georgie Thomson (looking like a failed extra from V and previously was OK with A1 GP until that failed) and Ant added nothing and we certainly don't need to see them marvelling at their own use of a big touch screen TV. It used to be funny watching an old fudder like Andy Gray mess around with it but that was years ago. What they showed was good but no different to ordinary replays that your standard producer could deliver.
What we forget is that Sky simply buy the pictures from F1 (I can't remember which of Bernie's companies that he no longer owns personally owns the TV rights) and these are the same the world over. SKY/BBC etc add their own take around commentary and pit interviews and the like an no different to ITV or BBC before SKY will take time to work out what and who works (does anyone remember how bad Murray Walker's ITV skit was??}). I am only interested in the race itself and am so glad that you can simply SKY+ that on its own. The rest is fodder.
