Its far easier to blame 'the police' because youre not actually blaming one person. Its a nice convenience for some. Regarding the 333 deaths, without knowing how they died, its a bit much to insinuate that the police were just killing people willy nilly. All deaths in custody are investigated by an indepentent body, but thats obviously not good enough for some and they must be 'in on it!' I would imagine the majority of the deaths would be related to drink or drugs and a lot to positional asphyxia. When someone is being restrained, they can fight like a madman due to PA which will result in further restraint, leading to death. There was little know about this 10-15yrs ago when most of the deaths would probably have occured. There's more education given about it now, but it still occurs. With any tragic event, its human nature to want to blame someone. Even the tragic bus crash where 22 kids and 6 adults died, they're already blaming the driver for changing a DVD, without a shred of proof. The riots last year were 'caused by the police' shooting an innocent man who was meerly enjoying a ride into town. Oh yes, he did have a gun with him, but lets not worry about that. Then it was the polices fault for not stopping the rioting, despite its random and widespread nature, and being heavily outnumbered. Be too heavy handed, then its the polices fault, do nothing, its the polices fault. Some of these do-gooders should go out and face a riotous mob intent on death and destruction, then come back to me and let me know how they get on!
Rant over....
