I haven't seen the photo but instantly thought it could be some sort of tensioning system whereby if the cable runs through the nose cone, down the strutts and right the way to the wing end plates it could be tensioned from the cockpit to strengthen the wing and the released to make it go all floppy, im no engineer and do not know if a tensioned cable would work but i had this idea in my head right from the start.
