But were they better?

Obviously in most cases the newer car is quicker, the latest Subaru is tons faster in every respect than the earliest but is it as impressive? The first ones are classics where as the later ones lost some of the aspects that made them great.

I'd go with that on most of the Turbos from Japan. The 1st MR2 compared to the last, the Celica the Supra. Even the mx5 redifined the 2 seat sports car in mk1 form and now is just a very good car.
