as far as the 10 hr recharge time for electric cars, i work for a petrol pump manufacturer and we are already developing electric pumps to recharge bateries in about 15 - 30 mins. the idea is that supermarkets would set aside parking spaces in there carparks for the recharging points and you plug in pay by credit card and go do your shopping as the car recharges.

but remember if everybody goes electric how many more power stations are we going to need to supply the fuel (electricity) for the millions of Kw of power consumed every day

electric is not the way forwards hydreogen cell or similar is probably a better long term solution

as for karts when every body is running on alternitve fuels it leaves more petrol for the racer amungst us
