i think apprentiships were seen as a cop out to going to university, rightly or wrongly, probably because most apprentiships were for bricklaying etc...nothing wrong with that, but its not something you need a degree in.

however apprentiships come in cvarious forms these days, im essentailly an apprentice, im a trainee civil engineer, stuying for my degree on day release whiile working as an engineer the other 4 days...to me its the smart thing to do, you get paid to work, have your uni fees paid for and most improtantly get your foot in the door with a job. go to uni these days, rack up a massive debt, and have naff all at the end of it with a piece of paper. i currently have an engineer working underneath me that has a masters degree, im using him as a chain lad, he may have a masters, but he has no experience or common sense....universtiy doesnt give you everything!!
