Oh yes!! The sore spot was hit!!
So DavyBoy you are asking for video and all of the "modern" features (not benefits). Some of your ideas have merit, but who is going to fund them. Not you, I'm sure!! Put your money where your mouth is.
My first example stated: "Before any 'enhancements' are made, what would be the impact upon those users that only have a slow network connection? Not everyone has access to fast broadband, in fact there are still areas of the country that do not have broadband connectivity at all! I assume that you have a broadband connection, so that's alright then, as far as you are concerned."
So what about the people with slow connectivity? Apparently, you don't care about them. To provide a reasonable service to all, who use a variety of technologies, then the lowest common denominator method must be applied. But, from your arrogant reply, you really don't care about what other people have to endure, connectivity wise.
Fast client means nothing, unless the backend can deliver on the demand. Backend services cost a shed load more than some poxy client. I really suggest that you make a serious financial contribution to the upgrade of the service, which you currently receive FREE OF CHARGE!! If you don't like the service, then the solution is blatantly simple, Don't Use It!! This would then free up resource to someone who is actually positive, and interesting. An alternative is, obviously, to produce a competitor to UKK. Gone on, do it!! Then see how your visitors whinge at you.
Just accept the limitations of what is actually an excellent service. Given the opportunity, time, resource, I would probably replace the backend database with a Multivalue equivalent, which has much more scaleability but, like any other serious 'upgrade' demands a serious amount of effort.
