I think the points system so far has made it fairer on the basis that if you look at how many races the top drivers have won this year -

Webber - 4
Hamilton - 3
Alonso - 3
Button - 2
Vettell - 2

This is also the order of the championship so far, as PaulM wrote, it seams to be rewarding the guy who pushes for the win.
I just hope I added the winners up correctly!!
