Yes, I agree reasonably briskly, but it doesn't need to be a step change.

In modern cars, the throttle pedal is a potentiometer that asks the vehicle management system to set or vary the speed of the vehicle. There are also other inputs that can ask the management system to alter the speed such as cruise control, DSC, traction control etc... So by the same token, somebody could today bring a lawsuit for the failure of their DSC or their traction control as a reason for loosing control of their vehicle e.g. flooring the throttle on an icy bend expecting the car to sort out any slides.

I'm sure you're right about adaptive speed control in trucks, I just find it odd that so many of them consistently cruise through SPECS areas at up to 10 mph over the 50mph limit. Maybe somebody familiar with the trucking scene might be able to shed some light on why it appears to be different for them.
