Yes, a Mac is Unix based and Linux/Unix apps could be ported to the Mac. However, we are talking here about getting work done, out in the wild, where companies generally don't have their own competent IT staff. They need to be able to purchase a product off the shelf and/or download it, get the product installed and carry on with running their business. If it breaks, or they don't know how to achieve something, they need tech support that will resolve those issues quickly. They need their users to be able to get up and running with the new software as quickly as possible.

It's no good saying it "can" be done. OSX, Linux, Unix and Windows are all perfectly capable OS's running on perfectly capable hardware. But they are only as good as the software you can run on them. I've listed 10(?) functions that many businesses and ordinary people perform. All you Mac users need to do is tell me the software available that allows you to do it that is available for purchase or download ready for use on a Mac.
