The exact same thing happened to me a few years ago in the last race of the championship. It was between me and another guy and we both needed the win for the championship. I had much more speed off the last corner onto the straight and recognising this, the other guy drove down the centre of the track to defend the next right hander. I drove up the outside of him to force him offline hoping to slingshot up the inside as he went wide. Unfortunately he swept left to take the racing line, clipped my front wheel and sent himself down the escape road. I was able to continue and win the championship. A complaint was lodged as the other driver was convinced I had taken him out and we had to go and see the COC.
He did not see the incident (first and second racing bumper to bumper, on the straight, in the final race of the championship????) but luckily a marshall had.
Not the clean win I had wanted, but a deserved victory I thought!!
