I'd love to go self employed, i know its a big step, the loss of some benefits you have when employed wasnt really a factor or a put off, i was ready and thought now is the time to go and work for myself, heck what have i got to lose???

Well as you know the meeting with business link was a waste of time with virtually no help from them or the government, i know you said you dont like hand outs but for me it was vital, i was ready itpro to take the plunge, i went there all positive and left all dejected.

So, having thought about it a bit more maybe going SE in the building game in this climate wasn't the best idea so probably a blessing in disguise. So it was back to searching, searched hand on heart every single day bar weekends when sites dont get updated, from 9am till 5pm mon to fri i searched, got the yellow pages out and wrote speculative letters and emails, without fail i was applying for 6 jobs a week not the '6 actions per fortnight' the JC want you to do. As you say i got up off my a**e and did something but hey, it still took 18 months to find work.

The building game is on its a**e at the moment so it wasnt easy but i had to keep going, lots of joinery jobs have become multi-skilled hence my thinking was why waste this oppurtunity, get yourself on some courses and learn something that will help you to find work, basic plumbing, basic plastering, basic electrics would of all helped improve my chances of landing that multi skilled role but no one wanted to help. How else do you suggest i learnt itpro, did you expect me to buy a bag of plaster and find a secluded underpass and start spreading, at one end the spray can artists, the other you have me plastering, electrics, did you expect me to start stripping street lights down, how about plumbing.........???

Talking about help, something that completely slipped my mind, towards the end of my 12 month term on JSA, maybe around month 10 i was told i need to start applying for any job now not just jobs from my 3 chosen fields which were joinery, locksmithing and upvc service engineer. My advisor took the liberty of printing 2 jobs out for me which they said i needed to apply for and said they will check with the employer to see that i have.

Post up your hotmail and i'll send you the scans of the jobs.

So theres me, a genuine person, desperately in need of a job, needing genuine help and all i get is apply for this so your not a statistic any more, fat load of help labour where!
