Overall, since the introduction of speed cameras, there has been a substantial reduction in deaths and serious injuries on the roads. That this was noticeable in 1992, the first year of speed cameras, when in fact there were only 5 cameras in the whole country, is proof that the reduction in KSI's was due to the (then) recently introduced requirements for cars to have rear seatbelts, and the advent of ABS & airbags; not the speed cameras. The reduction in KSI's at camera locations is down to "regression to the mean", NOT due to the cameras themselves! The continuing small but steady reduction in KSI numbers is down to the greater proportion of newer cars with rear belts, ABS & airbags as older vehicles are scrapped!
