The debate on here neatly illustates the problem.

You have the tribal brigade on both sides, love Gordon, hate Thatcher or visa versa. Constantly looking backwards.

Then you have the partisan souls, who think they are voting to improve their own personal position.

When you throw the media into the mix, just trying to make a headline at any cost, it is no wonder things were in a mess.

On the basis that the Orange team went left of the red team for a while, it seems to me that for almost the first time ever we have a government that should actually encompass, at least some of any reasonably open minded persons views. Which really would be the best we could hope have.
