I think that the present benefit system does not sufficiently take into account the principle that "two can live as cheap as one" and so I would propose a cap on benefits equal to the average wage, to stop the payment of excessive amounts such as in my example. With 3 million people suddenly becoming "employed", though, there would first have to be a massive improvement to the transport system so that they could get to work, and implementation of a huge organisational infrastructure to cope with them. Of course, those that really don't want to, or can't, work will probably probably turn to crime, so recruiting a few thousand more coppers to cope will be necessary, and the other emergency services will probably have to deal with a few thousand more suicides and deaths from starvation each year so their numbers will have to be boosted. There's precious little these days that can be done without some 'elf n safety training & the awarding of a certificate, so that will be a job for a few thousand more. I suppose community service as a form of punishment will have to cease, otherwise being made unempoyed will be regarded as a punishment, so you might just as well turn to crime. If all these millions of people are going to have to be out in the community, then all the public conveniences will have to be re-opened so they have somewhere to "go", and staffing them will give jobs to a few more. At lunchtime they will have to go......where? Hmm....this is starting to get complicated......
