Here are the figures of the number of votes cast for each party as percentages of the total:
Conservatives at 36.1% ...............followed, with a gap of 7.0% by: Labour at 29.1% ...............followed, with a gap of 6.1% by: LibDem at 23%
Please note Trev.... that the gap BETWEEN the Tories and Labour was LARGER than the gap betwen the Labour and the Liberals.
Finally, if you add ALL the Lib MPs (57) to the Labour MPs (258) that STILL doersn't give the LibLab group a MAJORITY in the house. Labour will need a NUMBER of other parties AS WELL. At least the Tories COULD do it by creating a Con/Lib deal.... Gordon CAN NOT!
The deal with the Libs (wiuth Labour) will be for proportinal reprsentation. On the basis of THIS election, calculated crudely, PR would give Labour ONLY THIRTY NINE seats more than the Liberals...... That would put Gordon's result in the same BALL park as Nick's: a COMPLETE disaster!
Let's be precise, we (the Tories) FAILED BADLY.... We had a HUGE lead and we LOST it....
However, there is not a grown-up, intelligent adult on the PLANET who can suggest that THOSE figures mean that Labout did BETTER than the Tories or that, somehow, it showed that Labour WERE popular and the Tories WEREN'T!
Do you STILL claim that this was a TRIUMPH for Gordon and a FAILURE for David? If it was a failure for David, it was a complete ROUT for Gordon!
You see, Trev..... it's those damned FACTS again.... I know why you don't like facts.... because they show your 'argument' is a COMPLETE JOKE!
