I'm not sure I fully agree with you here Ian.

First DSC or whatever you want to call the computer aided driver assistance modern performance cars have these days will radically alter the handling because its independently controlling the car as well as you - its effectively having two drivers in the car. If you have that switched off, then you'll get a true appreciation of the car's capabilities. The E46 M-sport cars [what I have] exhibit moderate understeer on the way into a corner that moves through neutrality and then slight oversteer on the way out. You need to be driving at very high speed or in the wet to feel this because they tyres are too wide [particularly the rears] to break traction even with DSC off. Like a kart [and unlike a FWD Audi] you can control the car through the corner on the throttle and that's a very satisfying way to drive I feel.

Its all about preference. Pretty much all my life I've driven RWD performance saloons and coupes. In its raw form [i.e. without DSC] I just don't like the characteristics of FWD. Each to their own I guess.

... and I've never worn pin strips and braces Ian :-)
