Come on Alan...... the 'Poor handling' could well be on the part of the WiFi USB manufacturer!

Because Microsoft allow ANYBODY to build things that can connect, they simply state the 'rules' for the interface and the manufacturer is supposed to create the 'link', called the 'driver' (as you well know!). If the peripheral manufacturer gets it WRONG, it can hardly be Microsoft's fault! Ok.... it MAY also be a fault in Windows 7 but we can't know that YET!

However..... (even though you are a 'Soviet Apparatchik Mac UserSki).... I have trawled Microsoft's site and have found this:-

http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7network/thread/43f61a9c-069b-49ab-9f5b-f52ec2b1ef7e

It sound like almost EXACTLY the same sort of error that I reported to you about the Mac and Leopard! The manner in which neither operating systems can RELIABLY see various WiFi networks is 'spookily' similar! This time, it sounds as though it might be 'encryption' problems rather than LACK of encryption being the problem.

Try disabling Encryption or changing it to a another protocol and see what you can see.

Ian
