I have put together (from a variety of sources) a simple guide, which may be of use. http://www.lkrc.uk.com/Getting_Started.pdf

As Newshound has stated, visit your local circuit and ask loads of questions. Offer to help people so that you will learn what is involved.
Then ask a load more questions. Remember, the only stupid question is the one you don't ask.
