Yes, you do need Physics for an engineering degree. However, you don't necessarily need an A-Level in it (you can do a foundation year at many universities where you learn all your stuff). Generally, if a university will let you do engineering without any kind of physics knowledge the degree isn't worth doing.

I'm currently doing Aeronautical Engineering (basically Mech Eng with respect to aircraft) and it's really good. However, it is VERY physics based. If you do not like physics...then think very carefully about taking the subject. However, it could be that Physics simply hasn't clicked for you yet, spend a bit of time after each lesson actively trying to learn the material and you may find it makes a lot more sense! :D

Many universities run 'headstart' which is where you can go to a uni for a few days to try out a course. You can also talk to lecturers and ask them these questions. I'd recommend doing that.
