I see what you are saying but you are, again, not being fair. Alonso did EXACTY what you asked of him..... he DID get his head down and RACE.....
Everybody remembers that season as Lewis wiping the floor with Alonso......... oh REALLY?
What ACTUALLY happened was that Fernando had a LOUSY start and Lewis had the start from HEAVEN (thorugh is undoubted RAW skill). Alonso fell out with the team and was VERY much the dis-favoured driver with (as you admit) even RON PUBLICLY STATING that Alonso was a RIVAL to his toy-boy, Lewis.
........And then....... the highly experienced Fernando reeled the boy-wonder ALL THE WAY IN! They ended up with IDENTICAL points at the end of the seasan, a SOLITARY point behind Kimi.
That proved EXACTLY what Fernando had claimed all the way along, which was:-
1) Lewis was a NOVICE and would not be capable IN THAT YEAR (his first) of beating Kimi. 2) Lewis would fall to PIECES during the season when the pressure was on him (because of his in-experience) ...... and that's EXACTLY what happened 3) If they treated Fernando on 'World Champ' status for that year, he'd have deliveedr the Champrionship FOR himself AND Mclaren. 4) If they FAILED to give him equal status to Lewis, they would LOSE the championship to Kimi when Lewis fell apart.
Fernando was ONE HUNDRED and TEN percent RIGHT!
Ron's excessive BIAS towards Lewis did exactly what Fernando had predicted..... and eventually, it cost Ron his position as 'team principle' and Mclaren/Merceded a HELL of a lot of money Even Mercedes became fed-up with Ron's silliness!
And remember, I am a SUPPORTER of Ron and Mclaren. However, his treatment of Alonso was nothing short of stupid and, actually, SUICIDAL! Look what it COST Mclaren and Cash, Status and reputation!
Alonso finally got his FIAt seat that he ALWAYS WANTED; admittedly, he lost the championship in the year that he SHOULD have won it but it cost Mclaren VASTLY more than it cost Fernando!
Damn it, Fernando was RIGHT!
