Not backward looking at all (anymore than any such list has to be backward looking no matter who you pick).
Nobody after Villeneuve deserves to be on it. Modern F1 is too easy, too safe, too certain - these days by the time a driver makes his F1 debut, he has already done more laps in an F1 car than Clark did in his entire career!
Moss is on the list because of his speed - other than Fangio, he was a class apart from the rest from 1953 to 1961.
As for Schumacher, I suspect we'll never know how many of his wins were won fairly.
