You mean that you drove without insurance? If you own the car, and you are the main driver then you have to be named on the policy as such.

I know someone who gave their daughter a car for Uni but kept it on their 'multi-car' policy. When she had an accident the insurer claimed that the risk on the car was not Dad and occasional daughter but daughter and occasional Dad. This contravened the terms of the policy and they refused to pay.

She was lucky she hadn't hit anyone as that could have been nasty, but as it was It was Dad who had to pay for teh repairs, Dad who had his premiums increased and Dad who had daughter refused as a driver on other cars. Note, this really hits you later, when you have to answer 'Yes' to the question 'Have you been refused insurance before?"
