I'm gonna sound like an idiot, but get yourself an old shaped Renault Clio. I had a 1.4 and took it to Cadwell for a trackday, never had as much fun in my life!! And on my dads insurance it cost a little over Ł600 fully comp and was earning my own no claims!!

You can buy them as cheap as Ł350 and a bit of work will keep them running brilliantly. Plus if you're sensible, they're economical too, I did a run up to London from Ipswich and averaged 42 miles to the gallon there and back!!
