Just like karting and many other sports - because the rules say 'X' then there's nothing they can do.

EXCEPT when the FIA convened in Paris the other week or this week or whenever, why not have a motion to vote for an emergency resolution that says 'in circumstances where the result of a race has been proved to be invalid, we hereby reserve the right to adjust the results and any points relating to said race, regardless of when the race took place...'

The 'reserve the right' element gives the flexibility to exercise discretion/judgement (is that an oxymoron when it comes to the FIA?) because if someone admitted to cheating in 195? and all the culprits are 'pushing up the daisies' then is there any point or as much point doing something compared with an incident that took place in 2008 or more recently?

So while you're right because the rules say so, the rules can just as easily and quickly be changed assuming there is a political will to do so!

The FIA/governing bodies can't have it both ways and this should be a watershed for the sport in my humble view!
