ok the title it a little ott and if you speed you should accept the penalty - IF that penalty is just and fair.

Motorist is caught speeding, 4 year ban, fair enough but he also gets 12 months in jail

Now yes his speed was wrong, but no one was hurt although they could easily have been.

on the other hand

Admitting to using a mobile whilst driving - and has a accident that causes the death of an innocent person

so therefore speeding must be a greater crime that contributing ot someones death.

I do agree that if you speed (as i do, although to with the guildline the police give you for natioanl's and motorways) then you should accept a punishment - if that punishment is fair and level.

How often do you watch those police tv shows to see people who are already banned, steal a car, have a 1-2 hours police chase, cause untold damage and they get a few weeks in jail and a ban (they were already)

The chap gets 1 year for driving, taxed, insured and licenced and not having an accident. Yes the speeds are too high, but he could now lose his job, his home maybe his family from being in jail that long, surely the 4 year ban would be sufficent.
