I thought that's what Nik and Daviod would claim. Damn it, they both know more than I do about most Racing Car stuff..... but I STILL think it's total B*LL*CKS! How come :-

* it never caused a problem LAST year?
* it Only seems to happen to cars at near FULL revs and speed?
* The amount of jump in 'note' EXACTLY matches the same sound as a gear change....AND... doesn't randomly make the engine sound likes it's pulling 4,000 rpm or 40,000rpm?
* It doesan't affect the VOICE sounds?
* it doesn't cause the same effect when the cars are sitting on the grid at almost the same rev range?
* it Never seems to affect 'lesser' cars such as the Force Indias?
* it dopesn't do it in anything BUT the highest gears! Why isn't it happening in 3rd and 4th and 5th? How does the 'faulty' audio KNOW that the 17,500 rpm it's 'hearing' in 5th gear is NOT when is should be 'mis-hearing'?

Oh... and the engines may well NOT blow if rthey change down too soon.... why.... becasue the engines were DESIGNED for 19,000 rpm but have (suppoedly) been limited to 18,000 rpm and thus they still (probably) have enough 'headroom' to manage such a downshift.

I suppose the next question is to ask what number of revs would be expecte to be 'dropped' when changing up in 6th at 18,000rpm? If it is only 1,000 rpm, then changing DOWN from 18,000 may only raise the revs to (an illegal) 19,000rpm. Becasue that is EXACTLY what it sounds like!

Having said all that, I can't see what help it is forr NON Kers Cars. It MAY be useful on a kers car becauze the torque of of the electric motor stays (roughly) constant throughout a range, thus, when a convention motor is dropping OFF the power curve at the top and of 7th gear, it may WELL be in the revrange that the kers motor can STILL deliver extra torque while being geared lower than the convential motor would 'like'. I;'ve not expressed that well but I mean that the gar ration that is ideal; for t e conventional; motror may well NOT be ideal for an co-mounted electric motor!

Having said all that, surely I am correct in remembering that I have heard cars that (supposedly) DON'T have KERS doing it, too?????

It's baffling but I just do NOT believe it's a fault in the on-board audio. It's just TOO unbelievable!

Ian
