What happened in Melbourne is really bad for McLaren and very serious. What they did went against the grain of everything Ron Dennis has stood for.

If Whitmarsh is proven to have been involved then the FIA might want his head or even suspend the team for a while.

On the other hand the way they came clean might just prevent the FIA from being really punitive.

This episode has just shown Dennis that if you are not in ultimate control best keep well away.
