Since I do liaise with police and associated bodies quite lot ( I edit a local magazine) I have a fair idea of what they do and don't do.

They spend a disproportionate amount of their time on speed enforcement because activists like itpro demand it.

Now if they spent MOST of their road safety time on other things, we might get somewhere. Unfortunately they don't. I used to be eagle-eyed in my mirror looking for marked and unmarked police cars (two mirrors the usual give away). Now I don't bother - you hardly ever see one marked or unmarked.

I read a recent statistic that 25% of people DON't wear a seatbelt, and I see mobiles used without hands-free on a daily basis. When I don't see that I'll start to believe that police time is sensibly allocated.
