I have already stated the 'how'...stop people breeding. It is THE only solution. ALl the rest are simply 'stopgap' measures...they may alleviate, and possibly delay the problem.

I have no problem with that...many problems (desease, weeds, rust) have to be stayed, rather than stopped. Eventually, either a permanent solution is found, or the 'rust' wins.

In the case of the planet, the rust WILL win...after all, the climate will change, without our help. But should that stop us trying to improve the lives of our grandchildren? And when I say improve, I don't mean make more fuel etc. available to them, I mean making the planet remain a place worth living.

'Green issues' are more complex than the simple policy that many persue. A lot of people get dewy eyed about the lot of the polar bear, or the emporer penguin. A prime example is the current 'orang utan' diary on BBC. The project there takes Orangs who are displaced from their territories by logging etc. and moves them into 'virgin'jungle. However, there are other scientific groups in the area getting very upset about the effect this is having on OTHER wildlife in these areas.

There is NO easy answer, apart from getting rid of people. Its true that I am 'selfish' in this matter....its MY kids who I want the environment preserved for..if the entire Chineese population (for example) was to be wiped out by some virus, my concern would be for MY kids, not the Chineese kids. If the result was an improvement in atmosphereic conditions around where my kids live, I would not be in the slightist bit worried.
I make no claim to be altruistic here.
