I know a guy who started trading on Ebay in October last year, he did really well and at one point he had turned over more than £1,000 in 24 hours. Then after about his fifth week of trading ebay decided to shut down his account and paypal suspended all withdrawals from his paypal account. I was with him in his office trying to help him get an answer as to why he couldn't have his money from paypal and what the reason for closing his Ebay account was. The answer he got was Ebay doesn't want him as a customer and as such has shut his account. I heard them tell him this and he very politely asked that he just wanted to know why they have taken that stance and they just repeated their answer and said that they couldn't give him any more information about it. He then asked who would give him an answer and they just repeated their answer and said that there was no way of him finding out what the reason was.
His account had 100% positive feedback from over 300 customers. Paypal has taken hold of his money which is over £2,500 and said that he can't have it back until 6 months time had passed and the only reason they gave him was that due to issues with Ebay they have suspended his account. Paypal still has his money and he is now on the verge of going bankrupt because everything has had a knock on effect so that £2,500 has actually cost him more like £5,000 and his initial investment was quite high aswell.
Could you imagine if a bank did that to someone? Would Natwest be able to turn around to one of its customers and say sorry we don't want you as a customer anymore, you can't use the bank account anymore but we will hold onto your money for six months without any interest paid?
Based on what I saw and heard I personally don't think they should be allowed to trade in the United Kingdom, I don't know of any other business that would get away with holding someone's money without a reason.
As a side note don't be surprised to see EBID take hold of the flag for auction sites because Ebay is really messing things up for sellers by being too greedy. In theory you should see cheaper items on EBID due to the sellers fee's being a lot cheaper.
