I get up to Ł500 cover with PayPal so expect you will have similar. I don't think you could send such a large item by "1st class" post these days. I would put it into dispute and let PayPal sort it out. If seller is genuine it's up to him to prove item was successfully delivered. Why any genuine seller would send such a valuable item without some form of tracking service is beyond me even if it did cost them a little extra. I'm sure you will get your money back from PayPal if it doesn't arrive.
