CAUTION this post is longer than a text message, if your mind struggles with long posts dont read and dont read books......some have over 500 pages, will direct it at Ian but others of a longer reading span welcome as well

did read your parenthood post directed at me but as i know you are a grumpy old man let it wash over me,only thing i will say on the subject is both my wife and i have reduced our work hours so one parent is always is always looking after our daughter, it would have been easier and we would have more money to go down the nursery route but didnt think it was right, not saying our way is right but both of us get to work and enjoy time with our offspring

closing schools has a massive impact on working parents, should some of the schools closed yes, should some of the pupils missed school because of the weather yes....but current policy is to push both parents to work once children are school age, school holidays total 12-14 weeks, most people get 4 weeks holiday, 2 parents working can only cover 8 weeks...with no room for both parents free for family holidays....my best childhood times

as union rep i have spent too much time in the managers office trying to get my employer to understand the cause and effect of schools closing, in the end we agreed the parents involved take the week lost as holiday but that as a knock on effect later in the year

it is not babysitting, it is parents in the modern world trying to fit into what the current policy is......if schools can open they should otherwise it breeds thinking of "why work when i can claim", believe me their are parents out there that want to support the kids they choose to bring into this world but can also see it is easier and more cost effect not to work......we dont want to promote that or the give up attiude

Ian disagree with most of your posts but disagree with what you posts not that you posted, you claim the present "must be some one elses fault" culture can be tracked backed to your era but free speech is now the under attack and that does worry me
