Computer numpty needs help !!

Just lately when on the net my laptop & desktop computer can work fine ( both work fine when not on the net )then after a short time it times out or gets stuck on what ever page I`m on , to rectify this I have to reboot the modem & computer & start from scratch again this can happen anything between 2 mins or 6 hrs, I have to do this everyday & its driving me mad.

Seeing I know FA about computers my instincts point to the modem but before I phone Virgin broadband I would like a 2nd opinion please gents ,

Any advice is much appreciated
