Some people don't seem to be getting this.

I used the example of Norway and driving and weather coditions there as an example of what could be construed as an extreme weather event here,snow 20cms thick and water frozen that solid is EXTREME weather(for the UK),what we have is reasonably acceptable weather and shouldn't have brought the country to it's knees. Furthermore I used the example to describe how UK squaddies,who do not live in those conditions could go over there and drive,it shows us Brits can drive on snow.

As for snow chains,how much for a cheap set? 20 - 25 Euros if you get them from Germany / Denmark or somewhere plus a fiver for delivery by very slow surface mail. Fine I accept you PROBABLY won't need them for years,but,if you have them in the garage just in case then that is you covered for the eventuality.

Ian may remember ,I think it was 1967,very bad winter 3' of snow where we then lived ,we still got around better than they are doing on the main road just down the road from me now. It really is amazing.

Ian a part of what you propose for the licence was a part of the Norwegian system, not sure if it still is, they had to take a Driving test during "Summer" May-Oct which allowed them to drive during that period,after a year if they wanted to drive in Winter they went and did another tezt including the skid pan.
