Davy...
We simply have our priorities set a different levels.... or you haven't thought it through!
I have LONG known my priorities, I know the order and I know the REASONS why I HAVE those priorities in that order.
Please note, it is NOT the order of AMOUNT of spending, it is the order of the PRIORITY of the spending. By that I mean that if we HAVE to cut something, you start with the ones off the bottom of the list and work UP to the top of the list. Even if Education's budget exceeds the needs of defence, we STILL give as much as we REALLY need for defence regardless if that means we need to CUT eductation.... including our ability to project our 'world view' on the REST of the world.... if needed!
Here's MY list!
1) Defend the country and our external needs. Without that, we HAVE no freedom to do the rest!
2) Maintain the state internally. That requires a spectacularly good police force coupled with a proper justice system. Without that, what are our defence for actually PROTECTING?
3) Support a BRILLIANT education system so that each generation can understand the freedoms and DUTIES that it has.
4) Supply an excellent health service so that we can live WELL enough and LONG enough to make all the above worth while.
After this is mere DETAIL! It needs setting but is NOT in the 'priority 4'.
How do your priorities differ?
