The technology isn't there today but I don't see a reason why it couldn't come about... nor why it couldn't be made safe.

As to the numbers of people who died from radiation poisoning [at Chernobyl, 3 Mile Island and Hiroshima/Nagasaki], all we have is suspected volumes. In the case of Chernobyl and 3 Mile Island, of those that came forward claiming to be affected by the fallout, its almost impossible to prove that it was actually the cause. The human body can withstand far greater doses of radiation than we're led to believe.

As I've said before. There are only two methods of sustaining our current [and growing energy demands] fixed nuclear or fossil fuel. At present and for the foreseeable future there is absolutely no credible alternative.
