Gillard..... loads of us are 'pro' at this....

Try booting the PC in Safe mode (F8 during as PC starts to boot up). Then run Spybot (or whatever).

The concept is that Safe mode just boots the minimum of software to get the PC working. It's possible that it will not have loaded the 'Adware'/Malware and thus it won't be able to block the repair.

"Hijackthis" is great but it just gives a you a listing. You then need to be abl;e to recoognise what is 'khosher' and what isn't before you can decide. It's possible to make a copy of its report and post it on other web sites where the people are even more 'geeky' than we are. They will then often tell you what IS khosher and what isn't.
