No regulation is needed as long as you can still read the number on both sides.

It is a pain to work on a filthy kart but what will the scruits not be able to check if it has a bit of dirt on it from practice and a tyre mark up the side??

The time this reg would trip you up is when you've had a nightmare practice the day before and simply do not have any time to polish the pods.
