Ian you are clutching at straws!
1) Agree'd the footage shows that no deliberate turn into the path of Lewis. However I have to disagree with your claim that, and I quote 'Indeed, it shows him kaing EVERY attempt to AVOID a collision'. MASSA WAS ON THE G*R*A*S*S FOR CHRISTS SAKE!!! The very fact that HE PUT HIS CAR ON THE GRASS M*U*S*T show that he did infact NOT make EVERY attempt to AVOID a collision. If he had he simply WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN THERE!
2) I am glad we agree on this point, less typing for me AND so far we have not found any fault of Lewis at this point.
3) NO mistake? I trust you have not watched the footage from formula1.com. Watch it again! Best view is from Lewis's car (unfortunatelly it does not display timings, otherwise I would state them). It shows a Toyota taking practically the SAME line into the chicane as the car INFRONT of him (Kovy I think?), Lewis follows the Toyota through on practically the SAME line! From what I see Massa attempted to OVERTAKE the Toyota from too far back and simply ran wide because it was MASSA that was offline! NOT the Toyota! Massa MISJUDGED (is that not making a mistake?) his braking point trying to OVERTAKE the Toyota and ran wide. This is unless the cars infront of Massa were ALSO offline!
4) How Massa made 'EVERY attempt to avoid Lewis but to remain ALONGSIDE and ONLY alongside him through the corner'. This must be a double sized straw Ian, because it is exactly the SAME as the first point! HE WAS ON THE GRASS!!!! Not alongside, definatelly NOT on the track! And how he was alongside the Mclaren when the FRONT of Massa's Ferrari hit the REAR of Lewis's Mclaren - this also cannot be disputed, otherwise the dynamics of the situation would not have spund Lewis around! The ONLY conclusion that can be made is that not only was Massa ON THE GRASS, he was also BEHIND and ONLY B*E*H*I*N*D Lewis.
5) 'Lewis appears to have HOPED that Felipe had 'disappeared' and simply made a 'half hearted' attempt to prevent him from REJOINING the track on the inside of the corner'. I bet Lewis would LOVE Massa to dissapear! Lewis took nothing but the RACING LINE! What Lewis, nor any other driver on the grid should expect a driver to TAKE TO THE GRASS in the FIRST PLACE when attempting to overtake!!! He should NOT be expecting to have to take evasive action from a driver COMING BACK ONTO THE RACE CIRCUIT! Massa SHOULD have given way because HE was O*F*F T*H*E C*I*R*C*U*I*T! The Schumacher years are beyond us! Unfortunatelly his team are still here! Look at the on-board view of Lewis after he has passed Massa, NO FERRARI!. The first time Lewis saw the Ferrari after overtaking it was on his way AROUND 180 DEGREES! As a karter MYSELF I would not expect ANYONE to take to the GRASS in attempts to overtake me!
It was NOT a standard racing incident, and the only decision on the day that I AGREE'd with!
My earlier quote: 'what I SEE in the VIDEO is a driver putting his car OFF THE CIRCUIT and direct it at the REAR of the car that has just overtaken him'
BECAUSE THAT IS EXACLY WHAT HAPPENED!!!! There is no statement there that he deliberatelly directed it, regardless he drove off the road - it was at THIS point inwhich the DAMAGE was done! HE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN THERE! His car WAS directed at the rear of Lewis's (deliberate OR not!), there IS proof because MASSA H*I*T Lewis!!! If his car was NOT directed at Lewis, he simply would NOT HAVE HIT HIM!
I am not wanting to forget anything! If I was wanting to forget it, I would not be arguing it! I would simply ignore it! Massa WAS at fault, he SPUN Lewis around he RUINED Lewis's race (even more so than it already was, but that IS besides the point of THIS debate) therefore his actions WERE VERY MUCH PUNISHABLE! That is the whole point of MY debate!
